As of 9am EST, all the reports I have say that Almar has died in Germany sometime on Monday. The Marine Corps got his parents over to Landstuhl to be with him in his last hours.The CACO’s for both of his parents were assigned over the weekend and Capt. Bobby Danzie has been assigned as his escort once he reaches the ground in Dover. I’ll be contacting Fitz’s mom tomorrow and post here whatever details about the funeral she has ready.
I’m heading in to the office to edit a short video for Fitz’s family and you guys. If anyone has any photos of Fitz, please forward to them to me as soon as possible and I will try to include them in the clip.
Wherever Fitz is, I am sure he’s smiling.

I want you to know that I appreciate the updates you are posting. Almar Fitzgerald was a friend of mine from back home. He was such a good person. Reporting this as you have has really helped us back home deal with his passing. Thank you.
A couple of things: thanks immensely for the updates and for sharing the pictures and stories. Almar was a friend from high school and we subsequently attended college in the same city (I was at easy breezy College of Charleston, he was at The Citadel, not so easy nor breezy), and it’s a comfort to hear stories of his successes as a Marine and a Man. He had so much more to do in this life.
Secondly: what’s the nature of the assignment you all were working on? I’m a filmmaker myself (www.kafilms.com, it’s a work in progress), and would love to see anything w/ our friend in action. My sincerest gratitude.
It is so sad to hear such a GREAT man has died. I knew Almar back in our high school days and he was always the one that could make you laugh if you were having a bad day. I hate that all of this has happened. His family will always be in my prayers.
